Aunque no lo crean, Líbano tiene Fuerzas Armadas, sólo que es un país tan pequeño y rodeado por grandes y conflictivos vecinos, como Turquía, Israel y Siria, que cada nada le vuelan por encima sin que ellos puedan hacer mucho.

Pero bueno, hay noticias. Y abrimos con la noticia de los MD-530 más caros de la historia.... ¡A US$ 233 millones cada uno!!!

MD Helicopters, Inc. (MDHI) announced today receipt of the third Delivery Order issued against its 5-year, $1.4 billion light scout attack helicopter IDIQ contract. The firm, fixed-price award is for six (6) armed MD 530G Scout Attack Helicopters to be delivered to the Lebanon Air Force (LAF), and includes initial logistics support (ILS) for the aircraft, as well as aircraft systems, ground support equipment, and associated services.

Awarded through U.S. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, MDHI’s new MD 530G will receive a U.S. Army Airworthiness Release (AWR) by December 2019. All MD 530G aircraft deliveries to the Lebanon Air Force will be complete by the fourth quarter of 2020.

“The Armed MD 530G Scout Attack Helicopter is a masterpiece in design and innovation,” said Lynn Tilton, Chief Executive Officer for MD Helicopters, Inc. “With advanced avionics, integrated weapons and mission management systems, and an armament suite that delivers both precision lethality and suppressive fire capabilities, we are honored to receive this order, and look forward to delivering these highly capable aircraft to the Lebanon Air Force.”

With the award of Delivery Order 03, nearly 30% of the estimated 150 aircraft available to U.S. and Partner Nation Military Forces via the IDIQ are currently in production.

MD 530G Attack Helicopter Configuration – Lebanon Air Force

The Armed MD 530G Scout Attack Helicopter features MD Helicopters’ next-generation all-glass cockpit that includes:

Two (2) Genesys Aerosystems IDU-680 6” x 9” LCD primary displays
Tek Fusion Global’s PATHFINDER™ Mission Management System (MMS) and “ARES” Weapons Management System (WMS) on Dual Side-Mounted Mission Displays.

In addition to this advanced, all-glass cockpit, the MD 530G Scout Attack Helicopter boasts an enhanced mission equipment package designed to meet a broad array of mission profiles, including:

DillonAero Mission Configurable Armament System (MCAS)
62mm ballistic armor protection
Ballistically tolerant crashworthy fuel system, inclusive of main and auxiliary tanks
FN Herstal .50 caliber HMP 400 Machine Gun Pods
M260 7-shot rocket pods
70mm/2.75” APKWS (Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System) rockets
WESCAM MX-10D EO/IR laser designator
Scorpion® Helmet-mounted Cueing System from Thales

The Lebanon Air Force MD 530G helicopters will also feature the Harris Falcon III® RF-7850A-MR Multi-channel Airborne Networking Radios with Advanced Encryption Standards (AES).

MD Helicopters will work with U.S. Army Aviation Engineering (AED) to ensure all aircraft are delivered with a full U.S. Army-awarded Airworthiness Release (AWR).

“Returning MD Helicopters to its legacy position as the preferred manufacturer of light scout attack helicopters has been a gratifying journey,” Tilton concludes. “I could not be more proud to have two individual aircraft models simultaneously under contract with the U.S. Army; both with the distinction of having full, U.S. Army-issued AWRs.”

Difícil para el Líbano ,cuando los asilados palestinos tienen ,más poder que ellos mismos.

Ahí dice que es el comando de contratación del US Army el que hizo un IDIQ (contrato de entrega indefinida/cantidad indefinida) con MDHI (Mcdonald Douglas Helicopters Inc) por 1.4 mil USD millones, y que los 6 aparatos para Líbano se corresponden a la tercera entrega (osea, ya el US Army recibió dos entregas adelante) que hace MDHI por ese contrato de 1.4 mil USD millones ¿Si saben que es un IDIQ? Ahí se los dejo:

Así que no es que sean helicópteros de más de 200 USD millones, ni que fueran V-22 invisibles al radar!

La figura esa del IDIQ es extraña. Más o menos es que hay 150 MD-530G para entregar por un montó de US$ 1,4 billones, ya el US Army verá a quién se los va entregando, quedando, donando o vendiendo por menos precio o al que desee.

Unos cuántos de esos por acá no caerían mal, especialmente para el EJC.

Ya con la nueva información, cada MD saldría a US$ 9 millones.

Potente explosión en el puerto de Beirut, se cree que fue en un arsenal en el lugar...

Una fuerte explosión sacude el puerto de Beirut

Una fuerte explosión ha sacudido este martes la capital libanesa, sobre la que se eleva una gran columna de humo de color rojizo que se ha originado en un almacén de explosivos del puerto de Beirut. El ministro de Sanidad, Hamad Hasan, ha anunciado que hay “muchos heridos y cuantiosos daños materiales”. La explosión ha generado una enorme onda expansiva, se pudo sentir en toda la capital desde varios kilómetros de distancia.

Un incendio ha comenzado cerca de los silos de trigo del puerto, en un almacén de explosivos, lo cual ha provocado una fuerte deflagración que ha podido sentirse en toda la ciudad y sus suburbios. Hay cristales en las calles a más de un kilómetro de los almacenes incendiados y se ve a gente herida por el impacto de cristales y otros materiales. Minutos después de la explosión, que tuvo lugar sobre las 18.15 horas (17.15 en la España peninsular), han empezado a llegar ambulancias para atender y trasladar a los trabajadores del puerto heridos. Después se ha acordonado la zona e impedido el paso de la prensa.

Dicen que habían cerca de 3000 toneladas de nitrato de amonio.
Personalmente me recuerda cuando era pequeño y los paramilitares dinamitaban casas cerca de la mía, no es una sensación para nada agradable y la cantidad de energía liberada es abrumadora. Pero esto es un millón de veces peor.

Tiene mucha suerte de estar vivo.
